When the copy wakes up

Imagine a digital copy that carries all your memories, habits and speech patterns. The copy may say that it is you. The psychological continuity approach sees memory and intention connections as important; Physical approaches, on the other hand, emphasize the continuation of the same living organism. The thought experiment shows where these criteria conflict.

Duplicate problem

If two digital personas are created from the same data, they both claim the same psychological connection to your past. But no two remain the same; He starts to have different experiences. This branching makes visible the difficulty of explaining personal identity solely in terms of similarity or memory replica.

Separating consciousness from behavior

The fact that a system accurately describes your memories does not in itself prove that your subjective experience has been transferred to it. There are no confirmed experiments today that show mind upload technology successfully transporting personal consciousness. The scenario here is to consider ethical and conceptual implications.

discussion question

If your digital copy lived on after you, would you see it as your heir, a new person, or you? Explain what criteria determined your decision.
