What is measured in the experiment
The researchers measured three- and four-photon energy-time relationships by examining third- and fourth-order scattering processes in resonance fluorescence. The work reports experimental evidence and demonstration of quantum secret sharing for true multipartite entanglement via the Svetlichny inequality. The result is valid for a specific light-matter system and measurement setup.
Why is it important?
Generating multiphoton associations from a single quantum emitter could offer a new resource pathway for distributed quantum information tasks. But proof of concept; It does not mean that a large, lossless, long-distance quantum network is ready. Production rate, losses and independent repetitions should also be evaluated.
Entanglement is not instant messaging
Photons may have mutual relationships that cannot be explained by classical independent states. However, a single party cannot select the measurement result and send a faster-than-light message to the remote party. The secret sharing protocol also requires defined classical communication steps for reliable comparison of results.
discussion question
When evaluating a multi-particle quantum experiment, which of the entanglement strength, photon generation efficiency, and network loss would you measure first? Answer by stating your usage scenario.
