No single risk

Productive artificial intelligence can pose different risks such as misinformation, privacy violation, vulnerability, prejudice and overconfidence. Just because a system produces good text doesn't mean it's reliable in every area.

Manage, map, measure, apply

The NIST approach recommends identifying responsibilities, mapping the context of use, setting up measurable tests, and managing risk based on results. The assessment should be repeated throughout use, not just in the initial version of the model.

The limit of human supervision

The statement “there is human approval” is not a guarantee by itself. The interface that allows the supervisor to recognize time, expertise, independence, and error is important. Resource registration and means of appeal should be available in high-impact decisions.

discussion question

What risk and by what criteria would you first test for an artificial intelligence system you use?
